Wacey Cathey of Big Spring was born in Howard County, Texas on June 29, 1953.  He later attended public schools in Coahoma, Texas, and West Texas College in Big Spring, Texas.

            Wacey always had an interest in rodeo and paid especially close attention to bull riding.  He entered that event at the West of the Pecos Rodeo in 1975 and last entered there in 1992, a span of 17 years.

            Cathey qualified for his first National Finals Rodeo in 1976 and qualified for his last finals in 1991.  During a 15-year span, from 1976  until 1991, he qualified 14 times and picked up many checks.

            Several honors have come Cathey's way, including being inducted into the PBR "Ring of Honor" in 2001 and the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2017.  Wacey is still living the cowboy life, working on the ranch with his dad near Big Spring, Texas.
