Travis Branham “Shot”

Team Roper
1963-Living

Shot Branham was born on August 4, 1963 and was raised on a ranch south of McCamey, Texas.  Branham attended his first rodeo when he was 5 years old and from that day forward, he dreamed of riding broncs and team roping at rodeos.  He started day working on neighboring ranches when he was eight years old and then at 12 started breaking horses.  Shot worked on many ranches in the West Texas area including the Moore Ranch near Pecos.

Shot completed high school at McCamey and he then entered Sul Ross University at Alpine and aspired to be on their rodeo team.  Shot had no idea how “green” he was until he saw how good the other guys already were.  Branham hired on at the 06 Ranch riding their colts and continued to work hard toward a roping future.  His goal was to go to the NFR one day.

It took 17 years to get from the Rankin Roping Club to the NFR in Las Vegas and it had been a long, exciting journey.  Branham qualified for the Finals in 1997 & 1998 and also in 1998 broke the Houston team roping record with a 4.4 while roping with Vic Morrison.

Shot won the West of the Pecos Rodeo in 2002 roping with Breck Bean.  Branham always enjoyed Pecos because it seemed to be more of a “cowboy” rodeo with the long score and big steers.  The “walking fresh” steers were always appreciated.  These steers weighed about 650 pounds and were straight out of a feedlot.  Branham has always considered Pecos and Odessa as his “hometown” rodeos.

In 1986, Shot met his future wife, Peggy, in Midland, TX.  They now live outside of Midland and have one child, Randi.  Peggy has a roping background and supports his dream 100%.  Whatever the weather, she will always spin steers for her husband.
