Snooky Griffith

Barrel Racer and Performer
1928-2009

Dorothy Sherrill Griffith, or Snooky as everyone called her, was born into a ranching family located out of Rock Springs, Texas. Her dad bought a ranch out of Toyah and  Pecos and she moved to the Pecos area with her family.  In 1946, Snooky was chosen to compete as the Reeves County Sheriff's Posse Sponsor at the West of the Pecos Rodeo. Thus began her love of rodeo and its lifestyle.

Snooky's brother, Bobby Sherrill, competed as a professional calf roper and she went to New York and the Madison Square Garden with him as a spectator.  The next year she would perform there, and represent Pecos at every rodeo she attended along the way.  Snooky became a member of the "Lighting S Quadrille Team", performing at rodeos across the United States.

From Boston to San Francisco, from Houston to San Antonio, and from Selma, Alabama to New York she represented not only Pecos, Texas but the life and style of a cowgirl.  She competed in barrel racing and of course, always had a special fondness for the West of the Pecos Rodeo.

Dorothy “Snooky” Sherrill Griffith was born on January 20, 1928, and passed away on August 8, 2009, at the age of 81.
