Jim Sharp

We are proud to have as an inductee, a bull rider who has strong ties to the West of the Pecos Rodeo—Jim Sharp of Kermit, Texas.  Jim was born on October 6, 1965, in Kermit, Texas, and spent all of his teen years there.

          Jim got "Rodeo Fever" at an early age and when only 9 years old, rode a steer at the West of the Pecos Rodeo as a member of the American Junior Rodeo Association (AJRA).  From there he graduated to the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) and won the Bull Riding Championship in 1981, 1983-85.  While attending Odessa (Texas) College and successfully competing on the college's winning rodeo team, Jim won the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Bull Riding titles in 1986 and 1987.

          Jim’s college years were also the beginning of his professional bull riding career. He was the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association's (PRCA) Resistol Rookie of the Year in 1986 and qualified for his first National Finals Rodeo that year.

          In 1988 Jim became the first contestant in history to ride 10 consecutive bulls at the National Finals Rodeo earning him the PRCA Championship.  Jim won his second PRCA World Championship Title in 1990. Jim was inducted into the Cowboy Capital Walk of Fame in 1988, the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2004, the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2006, the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2009, the PBR Heroes & Legends Celebration: Ring of Honor in 2010, and the Bull Riding Hall of Fame in 2016.  

          He is a founding member of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Association and due to several injuries and shoulder surgery James “Jim The Razor” Sharp retired in 2005.
