Douglas Albert Miller

Team Roper, Local Rancher, & TRHoF President
1940-2022

Douglas Alfred Miller was born to Buck Lew Allen Miller and Marguerite Edith Deen Miller on January 11, 1940, in Pecos, Texas. Doug lived on a ranch 60 miles from town and he and his sister, “Sis”, a 2016 Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame Inductee, discovered their love of rodeo at a young age when Sis, age 8, won the barrel racing and Doug, age 7, won the calf roping at their first rodeo in New Mexico. Doug loved history, especially rodeo history and was a member of the West of the Pecos Rodeo Committee for many years until he joined the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame committee. Miller became the TRHoF President in 2015 and until his death in 2022. The renovation of the “Baggage Area” of the Old T&P Depot to house the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame was completed during his presidency.

Miller attended the West of the Pecos Rodeo his whole life and in later years competed in the Buck Jackson arena in the team roping event. Doug spent most of his career furnishing Mexican Corrientes steers for the roping industry. In the last 10 years of his life, when the oil industry increased, Doug was able to start roping regularly at the USTRC & World Series Team Ropings. He was most proud when he won the 8.5 division at the USTRC Finals in 2018. Miller realized many 1st place winnings in the WSTR, USTRC, and the Cinch National Finals of Team Roping. He roped with Bob Stewart, Kyle Taylor, Clay Emmons, and Richard Nolen. Doug is listed as a contestant in the 1972 Edition of the West of the Pecos Rodeo Official Program.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Glena Miller, his daughter Deena Ann Miller-Jones, and her husband James Jones, his son David Allen Miller, their wonderful mother Barbara Nelson, who gave him his precious children, his step-children Trey and Amy Miller, Jim and Trudi Miller, and Robin Miller Paul and Toby Paul, his precious grandchildren Michael Miller, Landon Gill, Jimmy and Imelda Miller, Montgomery Miller, Steven Miller, and William Miller, Charlie Branch, the son Doug and Glena never had together, his other adopted daughters Michelle Strain and her daughter Larkin Strain, Genessa Avera, and Amy Compton.
