David Lynn Hess

David Lynn Hess was born on November 8, 1929, in San Angelo, Texas.  David attended public schools in California and Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.  He began farming in Reeves County in 1948 and owned Hess Chevrolet from 1976 until 1980.

            Being civic-minded, David served on the West of the Pecos Rodeo Committee, the Pecos Independent School Board, and on the Security Bank Board.  He took care of the rodeo grounds in the 60s and 70s and enjoyed the work along with visiting with the timed event cowboys that he once competed against.  He competed at the West of the Pecos Rodeo from the 1950s until the 1970s.  Hess competed all over the USA but was always in Pecos over the 4th of July.

            David married Sara Sample and they raised their children, Jim Craig, David II, Mary Lynn, Gretchen, and Sara Catherine in Pecos.  After Sara’s death, David married Ann Harrison.  David passed away on March 29, 2007, while living in Midland, Texas.

            David Hess was posthumously inducted into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame.
