James Allen

Team, Steer, Senior Steer Roper, & Senior Steer Roping Director

James has always had a close connection to the West of the Pecos Rodeo and has placed in the Team Roping and in the Senior Steer Roping there. Pecos first had the PRCA Steer Roping in 1966 and discontinued it for a while. James assisted in getting it back and was the Steer Roping Director at that time. He has always been a friend of the West of the Pecos Rodeo.

James has competed in both calf roping and steer roping for over 33 years and along with being a "pretty good" roper himself, he tutored his two sons, Guy and Gip, in the art of steer roping. Allen was the PRCA Roping Director from 1979-92 and was on the board when the National Finals moved to Las Vegas.

James now lives with his wife, Ann, at Santa Anna, Texas where they ranch and furnish roping cattle. His son Guy Allen is a 2006 Inductee in the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame.
