Jack Riggs

Jack was born on June 11, 1927 at Batesville, Texas, and attended schools in Del Rio, Texas. His parents were Mildred Stroman and W.E. Riggs. His Dad was a U.S. Deputy Sheriff and Hall of Fame Texas Ranger. Jack did not start competing in calf roping until 1950 and first competed at the West of the Pecos Rodeo in 1952.

Riggs was the Pecos Calf Roping Champion in 1964 and he, along with Jim Bob Altizer (2004 TRHoF Inductee), won the team roping title at Pecos in 1972. Jack's last time to compete in Pecos was 1982. Pecos was always one of Jack's favorite rodeos because of the camaraderie.

Jackie Bob Riggs Cox (2015 TRHoF Inductee), Jack's daughter, won the Pecos Barrel Race buckle in 1965 when she was only 11 years old. She also won the title in 1968 and 1969. Jack's granddaughter, Kelsey, has won many Texas High School Rodeo awards.

Riggs, along with his wife Janie, now ranch outside of Ozona, Texas. He used his talent at roping to succeed at both winning rodeos and running profitable ranches. Jack used his profits from competing to help him buy two ranches located in Terrell and Crockett County. His 30 years of competing at the West of the Pecos Rodeo will always be fondly remembered. Jack Riggs passed away March 25, 2016 at the age of 89.
