Jiggs Barfield

Competing at the West of the Pecos Rodeo in the team tying, team roping or steer roping from 1953 through 1993 was local contestant, Jiggs Barfield. In 1975, the last team tying contest held in Pecos was won by Jiggs and his son Johnny.

Jiggs was always very involved with the Pecos Rodeo, being on the committee from 1975 ‘til 1980 and serving as an advisor from 1980 ‘til 1995. He served also as the Wagon Boss for the West Texas Boys Ranch, a member of the Senior Steer Roping Association, a Reeves County Sheriff Posse member and was always a goodwill ambassador for the West of the Pecos Rodeo.

Jiggs Barfield was born on June 8th, 1920 in San Angelo, Texas and died on November 30, 1997. He and his wife, Ruby Nell, always ranched in the West Texas area where they raised their two children, Babs (deceased) and Johnny.  Jiggs proudly carried his PRCA Gold Card and was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2008.
